چکیده

This paper summarizes the current status of research work carried out at IISc on the characterization of liquid sprays developing from gas centered coaxial injection systems. The coaxial system injects an annular swirling liquid sheet and a central gaseous jet. The interaction process between the swirling liquid sheet and the non-swirling gaseous jet results in a fine spray. The present study attempts to understand the effect of temperature on the atomization process of outer liquid sheet by conducting experiments with custom made gas centered swirl coaxial atomizers. Limited results show that the liquid temperature significantly influences the spray characteristics. The study also highlights the effect of orifice recess on the breakup behavior of liquid sheets.

Atomization in Gas - Centered Swirl - Coaxial Injectors ( POSTPRINT )

A preliminary study of atomization mechanisms in gas-centered swirl-coaxial injectors for use in rocket engines has been undertaken. Gas-centered swirl-coaxial injectors differ from other injectors in that atomization occurs from a wall-bounded liquid. Few studies of atomization mechanisms in wall-bounded flows exist; some probable atomization processes have been determined, however. These mech...

Atomization of Wall - Bounded Two - Phase Flows ( PREPRINT )

The current understanding of droplet generation processes from liquid films is reviewed. Films are defined as liquids with one free and one wall-bound surface. In many of the systems where films occur atomization is an undesirable side-effect of the two-phase flow. The motivation for this study, however, is a process where atomization from the film is the goal—a gas-centered swirl coaxial rocke...

Developing a Novel Temperature Model in Gas Lifted Wells to Enhance the Gas Lift Design

In the continuous gas lift operation, compressed gas is injected into the lower section of tubing through annulus. The produced liquid flow rate is a function of gas injection rate and injection depth. All the equations to determine depth of injection assumes constant density for gas based on an average temperature of surface and bottomhole that decreases the accuracy of gas lift design. Also g...

Influence of a Coaxial Gas Flow on a Flashing Liquid Jet: Implications for Flame Spray Synthesis of Nanoparticles

Flashing or thermodynamic breakup of a liquid jet occurs when a pressurized subcooled or saturated liquid is released to a lower pressure, resulting in violent vapor nucleation, expansion, and break up of the liquid phase. Flashing is known to produce very fine droplet atomization, often not possible by traditional mechanical means. In this work, flashing atomization is introduced in a spray bu...
